Non-Senate Faculty (NSF; Lecturers; Unit 18) Workload 
        full academic year (AY) = 3 quarters
        full course load = 6 Instructional Workload Credit (IWC) per year = 100%

  Employed for the Full Academic Year (9/12):  X number of IWC = X/6 * 100% for the year 
        6 IWC per year = 100 % (maximum) for the year 
        5 IWC per year = 83 % for the year
        4 IWC per year = 67 % for the year
        3 IWC per year = 50 % for the year

 Employed for One Quarter (9/9):  X IWC total for 1 quarter = X/6 * 3 * 100% for three months 
        2 IWC over one quarter = 100 % for the quarter 
        1 IWC over one quarter = 50 % for the quarter 
 

NOTES:

0.5 IWC = co-teaching a course

 

Fiat Lux seminar (19 numbered classes) - Lecturers who wish to teach a Fiat Lux seminar must obtain the Chair’s prior approval. 
1 seminar = 0.25 IWC (13%)
 

Independent Study Courses/Tutorial Courses (196-199) – Lecturers who wish to accept students in this capacity must obtain the Chair’s prior approval before accepting students.
1-2 students = 0.25 IWC (13%)
3-4 students = 0.5 IWC (25 %)
5-6 students = 0.75 IWC (38%)
 

Duties of an administrative or educational nature can equal up to 0.5 (IWC) for the quarter.  These duties must be paired, at a minimum, with the instruction of a course valued at 1.0 IWC or more.
