Dear Colleagues:
In my fall quarter letter to you I indicated the many possibilities and opportunities available to Emeriti faculty, such as mentoring, teaching, serving as PI on a research grant and maintaining an active research program, chairing a dissertation committee and serving on Academic Senate committees.
My letter also mentioned our retirement planning workshops, Path Forward: Planning for Retirement and Active Engagement as Emeriti. All Senate faculty are welcome to participate. Whether you intend to retire this academic year, or in the near future, I urge you to attend.
The Path Forward Workshop series will be offered on two consecutive Friday mornings, February 18 and February 25, in a Zoom Meeting Format.
- Session I: Navigating the Path toward Retirement, Friday, February 18, 2022
This workshop begins with an overview of ensuring that your emeritus/a years will be both secure and professionally satisfying. Topics include understanding your rights and privileges as an emeritus/a professor, negotiating a Pathways to Retirement agreement that sets out your plans for up to two years prior to retirement and three years following, and coordinating your departmental agreement with UC retirement benefits and other retirement resources. Then a representative from UC/Fidelity Services will discuss financial planning and management in your retirement years. The formal program will conclude at approximately 11:30 a.m., at which time Q and A will be available.

- Session II: Planning for Retirement and Active Engagement as Emeriti, Friday, February 25, 2022
Representatives from the Campus Human Resources Office will discuss planning for retirement and navigating the UC Retirement System. Topics will include the UC Retirement Plan (UCRP) benefit payment options; survivor benefits; continuation of health and welfare benefits into retirement; and timelines for completing the retirement process. Registrants can generate their unique UCRP Retirement Profiles (PRPs) if within 90-days of their retirement date. Otherwise registrants can, generate estimates if outside of 90-days of their retirement date. You can obtain your Retirement Profile on UCRAYS: https://retirementatyourservice.ucop.edu/. The formal program will conclude at approximately 11:30 a.m., at which time Q and A will be available.
