Re: Revised APM 015, Faculty Code of Conduct

The Office of the President has issued revised Academic Personnel Policy 015, Faculty Code of Conduct, effective July 19, 2013 to clarify that within the professional rights of faculty is the freedom to speak on matters of institutional policy "when acting as a member of the faculty."  This last phrase is included because Professional Rights of Faculty (the subject of Part I of APM 015) are rights that derive from the exercise of professional responsibilities.

Additionally, revisions reflect changes in California's Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA), California Government Code Section 12900 et seq., which clarify that discrimination on the basis of "gender expression" is among the prohibited types of discrimination, and to assure  that the definition of "service in the uniformed services" is consistent with both the federal Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Act of 1994 (USERRA) and California's Military and Veterans Code Section 394.
