Workload Statement for Unit 18 Lecturers
Labor Studies

6 courses (IWC) (4 units or more) per year = 100% for the year (6 IWC = 100%)

1 course (IWC) (4 units per quarter) = 50% for that quarter (1 IWC for that quarter = 50%)

1 course (IWC) at 2 units per quarter = 25% for that quarter (0.5 IWC for that quarter = 25%)

1 honors discussion section in a lecture = 25% for that quarter (0.25 IWC for that quarter = 25%)

Labor Studies 495 = 25% for that quarter (0.25 IWC = 25%)

Assigned students in tutorial courses, such as 195A, 197, 199, et cetera, as well as formally advising or mentoring students, including honors work, thesis or dissertation advising. Lecturers who wish to accept students in this capacity must obtain the chair's prior approval before accepting students. The chair's approval will authorize the lecturer to be assigned up to 6 students per quarter under the following tiered scale:

  • 1-2 students = .05 IWC for that quarter (.05 = 5%)
  • 3-4 students = .10 IWC for that quarter (.10 = 10%
  • 5-6 students = .15 IWC for that quarter (.15 = 15%)

Additional duties of an administrative or educational nature during the year, such as curriculum development and research, service learning placement coordination and capstone requirement planning for the major, can = up to 0.5 IWC per quarter (.5 IWC = 50%).
